The idea behind the name Page 2 Studios is simple. What is inside the cover is as important as the cover. I believe this applies to all design. Craftsmanship in the execution of the entire project is what sets great communication apart. Fads in design come and go. Great communication lasts.

For more than 25 years I have been helping clients produce great communication. Here are some of the principles that I apply to my work:

  • Client First Thinking — I listen carefully. Then, present solutions that fit within my client's identity and budget. With years experience serving both corporate and nonprofit clients, large and small, I know how to match creativity and technology to the unique needs of my clients and their communications challenges.
  • Plan Carefully — Developing hierarchical site diagrams, creative plans and timelines keeps everyone on the same page. A Web site can sometimes be a vague thing. When the designer and client can agree to exactly what is to be done, what the site is supposed to accomplish and when it will be completed, the ambiguity is sliced away.
  • Usability Matters — A great looking Web site that confuses and confounds your visitors is no prize. Applying the best practices of Web usability is not glamorous. But, taking the time to think through and test how visitors interact with a Web site is one of the best investments you can make.
  • Use Interactivity Wisely — Flash movies and videos have their place. That place is probably not in a two minute intro your visitors need to wade through to get to your home page. Flash is great for demos. It excels as an accent on a web page. Because Flash development is expensive, you want to use it were you will get the most bang for your buck.
  • Pick Technology Carefully — There are incredible technologies available to communicate on the Web. The trick is to pick platforms that place you close to the leading edge without becoming part of the "Bleeding Edge" that looses viewers because they cannot view your content.
  • Stick With Standards — Desiging to Web standards is usually your best bet. Taloring your content to one browser leaves alot of the Web behind.

If this thinking apeals to you, contact me about your next project and we will see if we can make your communications great both inside and out.
